Family food supplier to benefit from digitisation following acquisition

Two South West foodservice providers are joining forces as independent supplier Charles Saunders Foodservice completes the vertical acquisition of Bristol-based firm, Victoria Foods. With a specialisation in supplying nursing homes with fresh and frozen food, non-food items, and cleaning products, Victoria Foods, a family-owned business with over 37 years of history, will maintain its autonomy under the new arrangement.

Victoria Foods’ new parent company will roll out digitisation across the business, where customers will be able to place orders through an app. Meanwhile, operators can use the online platform to monitor stock 24/7, search for products quickly and easily, respond to customer requests, and provide next-day delivery.

The acquisition will also allow Victoria Foods to supply their customers with a wider range of products, with access to the diverse repertoire from Charles Saunders, as well as Fairway Foodservice’s brands - a buying group that Charles Saunders is part of.

Darren Gaulton, managing director at Charles Saunders Foodservice, commented: "This is something that myself and Victoria Foods founder, Anthony Morris, have been discussing for quite some time and the collaboration of two family businesses always had an attractive appeal for us both."

Speaking with optimism about the future, Mr Gaulton added: "We have kept everyone on in the business and even signed an extension of the lease. Moreover, we will be investing in a new IT system to match what we currently have at Charles Saunders, which will be installed by the end of November."
