Highlights from the Sammies Awards 2023



After an evening of showcasing the best in the business, the winners of the Sammies 2023 are here! Eighteen awards for the F&B business community, celebrating people, products, processes and initiatives from all corners of the industry were announced. Here are some of the highlights.


Innovation


Coveris/Notpla’s innovative seaweed coating which replaces plastic lining on paperboard cartons deservedly took the prize for Environment and Sustainability, a great milestone for a company aiming to eliminate the need for single-use plastics in the F&B industry.


Meanwhile, Raynor Foods’ flagship Digital Sandwich platform, which harnesses blockchain, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to enhance ingredient traceability, was named Business Development Award winner.


Newcomer awards


The awards for newcomers saw Leathams, the innovative food producer, win gold for its vegetarian delicacy - the aubergine tapenade. M&S struck gold with its No Chicken & Chorizo sandwich, while Starbucks took home the prize for its new three cheese and ham egg bites.


All-star industry awards


Bagging the Sandwich & Food to Go Industry Award was Greencore’s sales director Vincent McVerry. Meanwhile, the best Independent Retailer went to delicatessen butchers Uptons of Bassett, and the top Cafe Retailer was household brand classic Costa.
